- Robert E. "Bob" Schneider, of Sherwood, age 82, ended his journey through life and met the Lord June 28, 2007, after a lingering illness. Bob began his journey in Kloten, WI on October 22, 1924, the son of the late Frank and Barbara (Penning) Schneider. Bob grew up in Kloten and Hilbert, WI, graduating from Hilbert High School in 1942. After school, he worked for his uncle Eman-uel at his cheese factory in Soldier's Grove, WI. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II serving with the Pacific Fleet aboard the Minesweeper USS Ptarmingan. After his honorable discharge he came back to Calumet County to work for Froemmings Cheese Factory, then to Thiels Cheese, AMPI and White Clover Dairy working at the same building for over 50 years. On October 24, 1950, he married the former LaVerne Wittbrod at Sacred Heart Church in Sherwood.
Bob was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood, where he served a term as trustee in the sixties. He also served as Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 62 in Sherwood. He was a member of Thomas E Kees American Legion Post of Sherwood. Bob enjoyed working, he enjoyed the cheese making business and also enjoyed fixing the unfixable, building things out of scrap wood or scrap steel.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne, Menasha; his son, Frank (Marlene), Hilbert,; daughters: Patricia, Arizona; Clare (Jerry) Zimmerman, Freedom; his special grandchildren: Angela and Joe Schneider, Ashley Zimmerman; his sister, Elvera (Lloyd) Karls; sisters-in-law: Geraldine Wittbrod, Audrey Meinke, and Cecelia Schneider; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Franklin and Alex Schneider; father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Clara Wittbrod; brothers-in-law: Fr. Joseph Wittbrod and Harold Meinke.
Bob's funeral service will be 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, with Fr. Ken Frozena officiating. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Monday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. Complete Military Rites will follow service.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul Home for all the care they gave to Bob.
