- Verna L. Lesselyong, Appleton, 90, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2007, at Rennes Health Center. Verna was born on Feb. 11, 1917, in Appleton to the late Rudolph and Lola (Timm) Pfund. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1934 and went on to Lawrence University and eventually earning a teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. On April 19, 1941, she married William "Bill" Lesselyong and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 22, 2004. Verna taught in elementary schools in Sheboygan and then taught for the Appleton Area School District at Edison, Huntley, and Franklin Elementary Schools. She had a true passion for teaching children, and even remembered students' names many years down the road. Verna loved to dance, her and Bill belonged to the Manhattan Club. She loved traveling, she had many fond memories of her European trip. She always enjoyed reading a good book, attending operas and plays, she even enjoyed "Mama Mia" at the Performing Arts Center at the youthful age of 87.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Susan (Kirk) Fromhart, Combined Locks; grandchildren, Scott (Julie) Fromhart, Greenville; Shari Fromhart, Kaukauna; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, Sabrina, and Sydney Fromhart; sister, Carol (Tom) Fern, Tucson, Ariz.; nieces: Sharon and Diane Fern, both Tucson, Ariz.
In addition to her parents, and her loving husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her sister, Leila Spahn.
In accordance with Verna's wishes private family services will be held. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Verna's name may be made to the Outagamie County Humane Association or to the Salvation Army.
