- Joy L. Olk, 53, of Land O'Lakes, passed away peacefully Saturday, Februa ry 18, 2006, at her home with her family at her side. She was born Novemb er 12, 1952, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to the late James and Mrs. Winiferd ( Hofman) Vanden Heuvel. Joy graduated from St. John High School in Little C hute, WI, and attended University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. She was employ ed by Wisconsin Bell in Oshkosh as a customer service representative in t he business office, and NCS of Green Bay for 20 years as an office manag er and part owner and officer of the corporation with her husband. For t he past ten years she owned and operated Donaldson's in Land O'Lakes wi th her husband Peter and their partner Jane Shirk.
Joy was married on May 15, 1982 to Peter Olk in Green Bay. She was a memb er of St. Alberts Catholic Church in Land O'Lakes. She loved the outdoor s, reading and gardening.
Joy assisted her husband in founding and operating a nonprofit organizati on to assist homeless and disabled veterans in Wisconsin. Together they bu ilt an eight-room home in De Pere, WI, which is still operating today. S he continued to serve as an officer and board member of the corporation un til her death.
Joy is survived by her husband Peter; her mother, Winifred Vanden Heuv el of Little Chute, WI; three step-children: Deanna Olk (fiance Daniel Han son) of Appleton, WI; Jeremy Olk of Little Chute, WI; and Erika (Adam Oseg ard) of Hammond, WI; two sisters: Vicki Krause (Larry Sobolik) of Oshkos h, WI; and Deb (Cliff) Peeters of Little Chute, WI; three grandchildren: J ordon Olk, Emma and Madyson Osegard; many nieces and nephews; also surviv ed by special family friends, Jane Shirk and Terri Lemmens of Land O'Lake s.
Funeral services for Joy will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Lit tle Chute, WI, Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. with visitation fr om 3:30 p.m. Father Patrick Beno officiating. Interment will be in SS Pa ul and Peter Cemetery in Hortonville, WI.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established to sponsor a n ew room in her honor at the new Armitage House being built this year. Dona tions to the fund may be sent to Joy Olk Memorial, C/O Armitage, Inc., P. O. Box 1019, Land O'Lakes, WI 54540.
The Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI, is assisting the family.
