- Marie Sidonia (Devroy) Haas, 87, De Pere, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away following a short illness on Monday, October 5, 2009, at the Jack and Engrid Meng Unity Hospice Residence in De Pere, WI.
Marie was born in Green Bay, to Mary (Piron) and Nicholas Devroy on February 5, 1922, but was raised in the home of Fred and Elizabeth DeCoster, her aunt and uncle.
She married Dennis Haas on May 4, 1943, at Annunciation Catholic Church.
Marie was a 1939 graduate of West High School and friends will remember her nickname, "Dovey", because she liked the film star, Billie Dove.
She was an excellent legal secretary and was a member of the Shuttlecraft Guild (weavers). She was also very active at both St. Clement and St. Dominic Parishes (both of Sheboygan) over the years; as well as a volunteer with the St. Nicholas Hospital Auxiliary. Family will remember her as a great cook and baker.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Robert) Butzen, Howard, Lynne (John) Hartung, Menifee, CA; her grandchildren, Sarah (Keith) Fairchild, Stuart Butzen and his wife, Amy; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Butzen. She is also survived by a brother, Vincent Devroy; a sister, Rita (Fred) Schils; a sister-in-law, Genevieve (Wilfred) Devroy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Wilfred; a sister-in-law, Gerry Devroy; a brother-in-law, Fred Schils; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Karl and Kathryn Kramer.
Friends may call at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew Street, Green Bay, from 9:30 to 11 A.M. Saturday. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Larry Seidl officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marie's name.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers of the Renaissance Assisted Living Facility and the Unity Hospice Residence in De Pere.
