- Bertha A. Jenson, Iola, WI. (formerly of Waupaca), age 98, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. She was born March 30, 1908, in the town of Lind, Waupaca County, daughter of the late Harry and Hattie (Bucholtz) Helgeson. She married Herbert M. Jenson on May 14, 1927, at the Hitterdahl Parsonage. He died on August 23, 1976. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Weyauwega, and confirmed at the Northland Lutheran Church. She had been a home maker for many years but also had worked at Bethany Home for 17 years as a nurse's aide. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, and crocheting. Over the years, she made a lot of lefse. Bertha always enjoyed her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons: Reuben (Jane) Jenson, Waupaca; Herbert (Joyce) Jenson, Waupaca; three daughters: Donna (James) Swenson, Scandinavia; Lois (Lee) Thompson , Waupaca; Jean (Vernon) Oehlke, Fremont; two sisters: Edna Tschurwald , Iola; Phyllis (Lloyd) Solberg, West Allis; a brother-in-law, Myron Solberg; two sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Twetan and Juanita Helgeson; 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by six sisters: Edith Gutho, Inga Grove, Gladys Sorenson, Vernice Leer, Ruby Johnson and Hazel Solberg; three brothers: Alvin, Charles, and Eugene Helgeson.
Funeral Services Thursday; March 29, 2007, @ 11 a.m. at Scandinavia Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Sabin officiating. Burial Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, 4-8 p.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola and Thursday, after 9:30 a.m. at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
