- Muriel Sotherland, 77, formerly of Waukesha, died Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Our House Memory Care in Whitewater, WI. She was born in Green Bay on May 30, 1929, to Ralph and Geraldine (nee: Peck) Gardner. Muriel was a 1951 graduate of Carroll College earning her degree in teaching. She taught at Echo Glenn Elementary School from 1973-1979, and then at Heyer Elementary School until her retirement in 1987. She was a charter member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Paul (Pamela) Sotherland, Kalamazoo, MI; Peter (Cathy) Sotherland, Hot Springs, SD; John (Elizabeth) Sotherland, Whitewater; Amy Sotherland, Waukesha and Jim (Alicia) Sotherland, Laguna Hills, CA; grandchildren: Peter, Nathan Sotherland, Kalamazoo MI, and Rebecca and Jennifer Sotherland, Hotsprings, SD, will also miss her. She is further survived by her brother, Calvin (Mary) Gardner, Menasha; her sister, Audrey (Robert) Grundman, Neenah; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard H. Sotherland III on May 4, 1999.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral mass at the church. After cremation, burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in the spring. If desired, memorials to Rainbow Hospice 147 W. Rockwell St. Jefferson, WI 53549 are appreciated.
