- Jerome P. "Jerry" Schmidt, 73, went to his heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, with his family by his side. He was born on May 27, 1935, in Lakota, N.D., son of the late Edward and Mae (Hinks) Schmidt. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Alice Vogt on June 27, 1959. Jerry was co-owner of Photoland until his early retirement due to Parkinson's disease. He loved to bowl, hunt, fish and repair machinery. Jerry was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; five children, Michael (Julie) Schmidt, Lisa (Kevin) Kasperek, Kay (John) Zaring, Andrew (Mimi) Schmidt, Karolyn (Alan) Kassoff; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Cory) Schmidt, Chris Kasperek, Amy Schmidt, Kurt Schmidt, Elizabeth Stachoviak, Emily Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, Zak Kassoff, Zoe Kassoff; three great-grandsons, Jaden Schmidt, Sebastian Falk, Payton Schmidt; two brothers, Joseph (Dolores) Schmidt, Lawrence (Genny) Schmidt; three sisters, Sr. Cabrini Schmidt, Mary Schmidt, Editha Bonneville; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Delmer) Henning, Lois (Gordon) Sommer and Delores Vogt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Robert Bonneville, Kenneth Vogt and Robert Vogt; grandsons, Michael and Daniel Stachoviak; sisters-in-law, Eris Vogt, Bernice Yaeger.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton, with Fr. Quinn Mann officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation for Jerry will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Military honors will follow the prayer service at the funeral home. There will also be visitation Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass.
