- John was born in Manistique,MI,prior to his parents moving to Brillion,WI. He enlisted in the Marines 12 May 1967,at the Milwaukee Recruiting Office. Arriving in Vietnam 26 November 1967,John was assigned to India Company,3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division. At approximately 1317H,while India Company was providing security for tractors and bulldozers,India Company received incoming hostile artillery fire from 60 and 82mm mortars and automatic weapons fire. John died as a result of rifle fire,during the engagement with enemy forces,west of C-2 Bridge,4 kilometers southeast of Con Thien, (Hill 158)during Operation Kentucky. John was single and served his country for 1 year and 19 days.KIA#28,877. He had been in Vietnam for 6 months and 5 days. John was 19 years,1 month and 19 days old. Survived by his mother;Margaret Pittman,his 4 sisters and 3 brothers of 810 Boyd Ave, Kaukauna,WI. His father;Robert James Gray of 1129 South 58th St,West Allis,WI.

- Lance Corporal John Patrick Gray USMC, age 19, was killed by sniper fire near Quang Tri Viet Nam on May 31. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pittman, Kaukauna. He joined the Marine Corps May 12, 1967 and arrived in Viet Nam in November of that year. Gray served with the Third Battalion, Ninth Marine Regiment.
