  Klasen, Bertha L. Bertha L. Klasen, age 90, of Chilton died on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. She was born July 8, 1918, in Munzesheim, Germany, daughter of the late Frederick & Lina (Werner) Abel. She married Charles Klasen on February 9, 1949, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. Bertha trained to be a nurse in Germany and moved to the United States to marry Charles. Bertha loved being a nurse and worked for a few years at the Calumet Memorial Hospital when it first opened and later worked for Dr. Everett and Dr. Ken Humke in their private practice until she retired in 1983. Charles preceded her death on January 12, 2001. She was a member of Ebenezer UCC in Chilton. To everyone who knew her, she was an extremely nice person and went out of her way to be kind. Bertha was a German History 'nut' who loved to cook and made sure she was around people whenever possible. On Sundays, she made sure there were family and friends at her house for dinner, and on Thursday, she spent time with her German Lady Friends. Survivors include her son: Fred (Kathy) Klasen, Chilton; two grandchildren: Adrian Klasen, Amy (Jason) Karls; and a brother: Walter Abel, Germany. Bertha is further survived by niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Elizabeth Klasen; Karl, Heinrich and Oskar Abel. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Kathy Gloff officiating.
