  Stewart Emery (Stu) Baurain, age 70, Appleton, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and cancer. He was born in Appleton to the late Lyle and Esther Baurain, Sr., and was preceded in death by his sisters Blossum Wildenberg and Lois Julian, brother Lyle Baurain, Jr. and son-in-law Bill Shattuck. Stu was a child of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Appleton where he was baptized and confirmed and was gifted by their teachings with a lifelong and unyielding foundation of love and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Stu was so proud and loved with all his heart and took great pride in his nine grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren. Stu was a proud United States Marine and Menasha Firefighter, forging in these two brotherhoods friendships that enriched his life. He was happiest on his pontoon boat floating in the warm sun on Lake Poygan or the Wolf River, lines adrift, waiting and watching for those elusive Walleyes. Stu had his own business, Stu's Home Improvement, for many years. Stu is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Jolene; his children: Rick Baurain, Scott (Wendy) Baurain, Tammy (John) Thompson, Lisa Baurain, Jackie Shattuck, Penny (Cliff) Larrabee; step-children: John (Sandi) Mansfield, Jr., Renee (Dave) Schroeder, Troy (Kris) Mansfield, Jody (Jill) Mansfield; his sisters who he adored: Ginny (Melvin) Kalwitz, Melody (Bob) Schabo and Beverly Roberts. He is further survived by the mother of his children, Stella (Roger) Wood. A celebration of life memorial service for Stu will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, 11 am, at the Valley Funeral Home with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Our thanks to Joyce Schroeder of Valley Funeral Home for her wisdom and invaluable assistance.
