- Orlo Arthur Hintz, age 90, of New London, was called home to live with his Savior Jesus in heaven on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. He was born in Maple Creek Township on February 15, 1919, son of the late Arthur Hintz and Leona (Gerks) Hintz. On May 30, 1919, he was baptized in his parents' home on Hintz Road. He was confirmed at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Maple Creek on April 9, 1933. He attended Golden Hill Elementary School and graduated from Washington High in New London. On July 19, 1942, he married Berdella Hanke at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Maple Creek.
He was a lifelong resident of Maple Creek Township until last summer when his health caused him to move into assisted living. He was a farmer and a self- employed electrician. He served on the church council at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Maple Creek, and also served on the school board of Golden Hill School District. He was a member of Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, New London. During his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, long walks with his dog, cracking hickory nuts and feeding the birds.
He is survived by his wife Berdella, New London; four sons: Duane (Edith), Hollywood, Maryland; Daryl (Mary) of Appleton; Gerald (Nancy), Delavan; Michael (Julie) of Milwaukee; two daughters Corrine (Gary) Ziesemer, Green Lake; Carol Gagnow, Appleton. Twenty-one grandchildren: Lt. Reuben Hintz; Jennifer (Mike) Sadowski; Julie (Ben) Liebzeit; Bryan Hintz; Sgt. Joshua Hintz; Sadie Hintz; Chelsey Hintz; Branden Hintz; Lindsay Hintz; Kelsey Hintz; Caleb Hintz; Angela (Tim) Palm; Christopher (Nicole) Hintz; Paul Hintz; Rachel Hintz, Mark (Sarah) Ziesemer; Chad (Amanda) Ziesemer; Katie Ziesemer; Kara (Clifford) Witthuhn, Jason (Diane) Gagnow; Shauna Gagnow. Eleven great-grandchildren: Emma & Cody Liebzeit, Elliott Sadowski, Kaylee, Joshua & Abbie Palm, Kaden & Kirsten Hintz, Lydia & Evan Witthuhn, and Allison Gagnow. He is further survived by a nephew David (Diane) Hintz, two nieces Jean Parker & Linda (Patrick) Flaherty; two sister-in-laws Mildred (Harold) Daberkow and Dorothy Hintz.
He was preceded in death by his brother Merlin.
The family offers their sincere thanks to the staff of Kindred Hearts of New London, Heartland Hospice, and the pastors and staff of Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church for their generous assistance and encouragement.
Funeral services for Orlo will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 4 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev. William Heiges officiating. Burial will be in the New Maple Creek Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Saturday, March 14, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established for WELS missions.
