- Mildred M. Gehrt, age 93, of Embarrass, WI, passed away Friday morning, March 12, 2010, at her residence. Mildred was born on September 18, 1916, in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Mathilda (Koepsel) Balke. On October 6, 1937, Mildred was united in marriage to Louis Gehrt in Embarrass where the couple were members of the Zion Lutheran Church. As a faithful member at Zion, Mildred spent many years with the Ladies Aid. Louis preceded his wife in death on December 25, 1977. Mildred's family was very important to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys in life. Mildred also loved to bake, and as her family would tell you, her coffee cakes were the greatest. She greatly enjoyed crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitching and was a beautiful seamstress.
Survivors include her daughters: Eileen (Neil) Strauss, Shawano; Mary (Steve) Stoffel, Appleton; her sons: Louis and Ronald Gehrt, Embarrass; her grandchildren: Rick (Carolyn) Strauss, Shawano; Nicole (Mike) Claffey, Neenah; Heather (Jeff) Kraus, Appleton; her great-grandchildren: Katie and Nash Strauss, and Jayden Kraus; also many nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis, a sister Vera Jesse, and a brother Willis Balke.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 12 Noon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass with the Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating. Interment will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery also in Embarrass. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville is assisting her family.
