Elva Lance Dykstra Young, 93, of Rosholt, SD, died Monday, December 26, 2005, in the Rosholt Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt, SD, with the Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and soloist Carrie Guy.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Lutheran Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Pallbearers were Steven Vergeldt, Damon Peterson, Gavin Dykstra, Andrew Vergeldt, Jim Guy, and Cevin Erichsen.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 29, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with prayer and sharing time from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elva Linnea was born June 21, 1912, in Traverse County, MN, to Albin and Emma (Rydell) Lance. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Lutheran Church, grew up in the Rosholt area, and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1932.
Elva married Andrew Dykstra on May 5, 1933, in Wheaton, MN. To this union three children were born: Della, Glenn, and Carole. The couple farmed near Rosholt until Andrew's accidental death in 1948.
In 1950, Elva married Raymond Young. To this union, one child was born: Joan. Elva and Raymond farmed in the Rosholt area until his death in 1967.
Elva entered the Rosholt Care Center in 1998 where she resided until her passing.
Elva enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizen Center and was often seen driving her yellow Dodge Dart.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Glenn and his wife Chloe Dykstra of Butler, MO; two daughters, Carole and her husband Peter Vergeldt of Rosholt, SD, and Joan and her husband Jasper Guy of Rosholt, SD; son-in-law, Darcy Peterson of Hinton, IA; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four sisters, June Bell of Mesa, AZ, Doril Ellertson of Battle Ground, WA, Gayle Owen of Union Gap, WA, and Lynn Herschlip of Monroe, WA; and two brothers, Duane Lance and Russell Lance of Shoreline, WA.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Della Peterson; two brothers, Ronald and Glendon Lance; and two sisters, Leone Sorenson and Verna Halpaus.
