- Richard C. Gosz, age 81, of Oshkosh passed away on Monday afternoon, August 30, 2010, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh.
He was born in Menasha on May 4, 1929, the son of Anthony and Marie (Michlefski) Gosz. He married Vivian Christie on July 5, 1980 in Oshkosh, WI. Richard was employed and retired from the Neenah Foundry as a pattern maker. He also sold insurance for MetLife. In the colorful days of autumn, Richard's lifelong enthusiasm was to hunt ducks on Wilson Lake with his father, brothers, sons, nephews, grandkids, friends and anyone else that could endure his antics in the blind between numerous hands of cribbage, then more duck hunting whether the ducks were flying or not. As the snow accumulated his attention turned toward cottontails and snowshoe rabbits. Spending time in the woods along with cutting and splitting firewood was his way of relaxing. He also enjoyed home projects, putzing around the yard and outdoor projects. His love for the outdoors was only outmatched for his six grandchildren which was his year round passion.
Richard also had a hobby career that started at the age of 15, tending bar at his father's tavern, The Broadway, in Menasha. He continued bartending in his free time until well into his retirement years, exchanging stories and B.S. with countless patrons. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in France with the Military Police during the Korean War.
Richard is survived by his children: Rick Gosz of Oshkosh, Chuck Gosz of Neenah, Amy Gosz of Oshkosh, Todd (Lisa) Gosz of Hortonville, Julie (Tom) Stark of Oshkosh and Dan (Michelle) Gosz of Appleton. Two sisters Marion (Vince) Vissers of Wild Rose and Hildegarde Hoerning of Menasha. Six grandchildren Sean and Matt Kuether-Amy's children, Eric and Andy Stark-Julie's children, and Alex and Maggie Gosz-Dan's children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vivian, on October 9, 2004, two brothers Raymond and Leonard Gosz and step-son James Kempf.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Poklasny Funeral Home at 870 W. South Park Ave. Oshkosh, WI 54902. Father William Van De Kreeke will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Private committal services will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Berlin, WI.
Richard's family would like to thank Evergreen Retirement Community, Dr. Karen Gremminger's office, and Arborview Manor for all the wonderful care they gave to Richard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Richard's name.
