- John A. Diestler, 77, Kaukauna, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. He was born on Aug. 19, 1933, in Antigo, Wis., son of the late Walter and Clara (Hanson) Diestler. John was a graduate of Kaukauna High School, Class of 1951.
On Oct. 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Huelsbeck at St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha. The couple lived in the Kaukauna area most of their married lives. John worked for Thilmany Pulp & Paper, retiring after 40 years of service. He was an avid golfer and loved all sports. He especially enjoyed the fishing trips to Canada and building puzzles. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a member of the Fox Valley Golf Club.
He is survived by wife of 51 years, Mary, Kaukauna; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria (Coleman) Day, Antigo. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his special companion, "Tippy".
Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepfather, Gilbert Moss; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Elaine) Diestler; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Bob) Kemnitz; two brothers-in-law, Earl Stickney and Earl Schmelter; and a nephew, Jerry Stickney.
Memorial services for John will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery in Menasha. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in John's name.
