- Gilbert B. Knoke, age 73, Shiocton, passed away on February 27, 2011, at Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton. Gilbert was born on February 27, 1938, in Liberty Township, son of the late Marvin and Idella (Vander Hoof) Knoke. On July 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen (Sykes) at 1st Congregational Church in Shiocton. Gilbert was a dairy farmer his entire life. He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, traveling and reading. He was very active in the 1st Congregational Church, serving in many different capacities.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his children, Cindy (Dan) Gitter; Brian (Sue) Knoke; Jim (Mary) Knoke; brothers, Donald (Heidi) Knoke and Robert Knoke (special friend Edie); sisters, Marlene Kaschube and Diane (Richard) Masten; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is further survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Nora Kay (Nathan) Young; Sam (Janice) Sykes and Linda Schultz; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Mary Sykes.
Funeral services for Gilbert will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at 1st Congregational Church, Shiocton, with Rev. Michael Isbill officiating. Visitation will be held at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home, Shiocton on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery, Township of Bovina.
