- DeBruin, Carl Peter Kaukauna
Age 90, passed away at home on Friday, April 2, 2010. He was born in Kaukauna on September 23, 1919, the son of the late Albert and Susan (Schommer) DeBruin. Carl was proud to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Europe and earning the rank of Corporal. On July 28, 1945, he married his wife of 64 years, Grace M. Van Schindel. Carl was employed at Roloff Manufacturing Corp. for 39 years, starting in the foundry and then working as production manager. He was a member of V.F.W. Electric City Post 3319. Carl was very active in the community including: volunteering with Boy Scout Troop 31, delivered Meals on Wheels for 17 years, and served mass for Holy Cross Catholic Church where he was a lifelong member. He was an avid baseball player when he was younger, enjoyed bowling and golf, and was known for his love of statistics for local high school teams, and enjoyed cribbage and sheepshead.
Carl is survived by his wife, Grace; children: Mark (Nora) DeBruin of Combined Locks, Kristen DeBruin of Xenia, OH, Phillip (Maryann) DeBruin of Rome, NY, and Neil (Stephen) DeBruin of Key West, FL; grandchildren: Jay (Deanna) DeBruin, Jeffrey (Kelly) DeBruin, Daniel DeBruin, and Mae DeBruin; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Aaron, and Brayden; brother and sister: Clarence DeBruin and Betty (Richard) Van Wychen; and in-laws: Cliff Weyers, Ralph Meulemans, and Gloria DeBruin. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren: Jason and Brian; brothers and sisters: Mildred (Gerald) Smith, Al (Martha) DeBruin, Mae DeBruin, Raymond (Honey) DeBruin, Frederick "Fritz" DeBruin, Ruth (Nick) Geurtz, Mary Alice Meulemans, and Mary Louise Weyers; and in-laws: Ida (Peter) Ver Voort, Alice (Bernard) Viaene, Clarence (Florence) Van Schindel, Rosalia (Francis) Vondracek, and Joan DeBruin.
The funeral liturgy will be a 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
