- Richard Joseph LaFond, 80, Menasha, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011. Richard (Dick) was born on March 16, 1931 to the late Albert and Luvina (Kellenhauser) LaFond. Dick excelled at hockey as a young man during the late 1940's early 1950's. Playing wing for the Menasha Redwings, he was the Wisconsin's leading goal scorer in 1950. Dick was drafted into the U.S. Military in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Returned home to Menasha where he learned the masonry trade and later owned and operated his own masonry business. Dick and Lorraine (Bourgeois) married October 5, 1957. He was an active member in the VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. His interests included fishing, hunting, gardening, working with his hands, and reminding his old hockey buddies, "keep your stick on the ice".
Richard is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; children: Annette (LaFond) Longworth, John and wife Kim (Maisonneuve) LaFond, David LaFond, and Linda (LaFond) Ratkovec and husband Roger. Richard is survived by 9 grandchildren: Christine, Matthew, Katie, Rachel, Ryan, Justin, Lindsay, Bradley and Andre, and a great granddaughter Gabriella.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Visitaition will be held from 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the mass. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Menasha. Full military honors will be performed by the U.S. Navy and the Hawley Dieckhoff American Legion Post #33, Neenah, following the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Richard's name.
