- Lois M. Matthies, 76, Two Rivers, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, following a brief illness. Lois was born Jan. 10, 1929, at Camp Douglas, Wis., a daughter of the late Neil and LaDorna (Allds) Nate and was a graduate of Washington High School, Two Rivers, with the Class of 1947. On Jan. 3, 1952, she married Daniel R. Matthies in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death June 6, 2003. Lois was retired from Suettinger Hardware in Two Rivers; she also volunteered many hours at the Washington House and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, Two Rivers Historical Society and an active member in the Red Hat Society. Lois was the #1 fan of her grandkids sporting events, attending all home games for football, basketball, baseball and hockey.
Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Marino Matthies, Manitowoc, and their sons, Jeff and Ben; Tom and Kris Matthies, Green Bay and their children, Lee Olson and Katie (Tristan) Lutzke; John and Laura Matthies Manitowoc and their sons, Spc. Craig Matthies with the U.S. Army, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Jason Matthies; and her stepfather, Albert Martin, Two Rivers. She is further survived by one sister, Pat Kwasny, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law, Joan Nate, Manitowoc; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Nate and Wallace Nate; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Robert and Charlotte Matthies and Larry Kwasny.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday (TONIGHT) and after 9 a.m. Friday until the time of service. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapel, Two Rivers. The Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate at the service, with burial of her cremated remains to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.
