WESTLAKE, Ohio - Virginia A. "Gina" Gipp, 72, formerly of L'Anse, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at the Renaissance Hospice Unit in Olmsted Falls, Ohio with family by her side.
She was born on April 18, 1937, in Waukegan, Ill., the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Goglio) Plante. Gina grew up in Mohawk and graduated from Calumet High School. She attended Northern Michigan University's Nursing School and trained at Dickinson Memorial Hospital where she earned her LPN degree.
Gina also worked for 10 years at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse and volunteered many years at the Senior Citizen Center in L'Anse.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L'Anse.
Gina will be remembered for her part in "raising a neighborhood" of kids and being the neighborhood first aid station.
Gina is survived by her four children, Stephen (Lorena) Gipp of Kimberly, Wis., Julie (Mark) Bogden of Bay Village, Ohio; Thomas Gipp of Wausau, Wis. and Karla (Darryl) Shann of Escanaba; and their father, Karl Gipp of Skanee; seven grandchildren, Christopher Gipp (fiancee, Amber) and Andrew (Abbey) Gipp, Jonathon and Adam Bogden, Daniel Gipp, Sarah and David Shann; one great-grandchild, Elleson Gipp and another great-grandchild due in July. Gina is also survived by her brother, Vince (Mary) Plante of Gladstone; niece and nephew, Nadine and Deric Plante of Appleton, Wis.; cousin, Dora Gipp and her children, Lori (John) LaSpada, Chris (Michael) DeGrandis and Tracy (Christopher) Hobbs and their families.
A memorial service for Gina will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L'Anse with Fr. John Longbucco officiating.
Spring interment will take place in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Following the service at the funeral chapel, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L'Anse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gina's honor may be directed to Bay Senior Transportation, c/o Dwyer Memorial Senior Center, 300 Bryson Lane, Bay Village, Ohio 44140 who for four years made sure Mom got to her dialysis treatments three times a week.
Gina's obituary may also be viewed and condolences sent to the family at rfsc.net. The family has entrusted the arrangements with the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse.
