- Alice Mae (Vogt) Schmidt, age 73, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 30, 2012 with her family by her side after a battle with lung cancer. Alice was born on January 5, 1939, in Aniwa, Wisconsin, daughter of the late John and Elsie (Kapitzke) Vogt. Alice graduated from Appleton West High School in 1957 and later met and married Jerome "Jerry" Schmidt on June 27, 1959.
Alice worked briefly as a cashier at two grocery stores and for several years owned and operated Quick Photo. She then retired to care for her husband. In her younger years Alice enjoyed bowling, family reunions, and summer vacations on Shawano Lake. In her later life she enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting and school events and taking them to various places like Bay Beach, the Children's Museum and parades. She also hosted New Year's Eve parties for the children. Alice enjoyed company; her door was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed caring for her two cats Paris and Smokey who were great company for her. Alice was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton.
She is survived by five children: Michael (Julie) Schmidt, Lisa (Kevin) Kasperek, Katie Schmidt, Andrew (Mimi) Schmidt, Karolyn (Alan) Kassoff; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Cory) Schmidt, Chris (Erika) Kasperek, Amy Schmidt, Kurt Schmidt, Elizabeth Stachoviak, Emily Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, Zak Kassoff, Zoe Kassoff; five great-grandsons: Jaden Schmidt, Sebastian Falk, Payton Schmidt; Jaxson Schmidt, and Austin Harrison, one sister Lois (Gordon) Sommer, two brother-in-laws: Joseph (Dolores) Schmidt, Lawrence Schmidt; four sister-in-laws: Sr. Cabrini Schmidt, Editha Bonneville; Shirley (Delmer) Henning, and Delores Vogt. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; brothers Kenneth (Millie) Vogt and Robert Vogt; sisters: Eris Vogt and Bernice Yaeger; grandsons: Michael and Daniel Stachoviak; sister-in-laws: Geneva Schmidt and Mary Schmidt; brother-in-laws: Robert Bonneville and Jim Schmidt.
A funeral service for Alice will be at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette St, Appleton with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation for Alice will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at church on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until the time of mass. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
Alice's family would like to extend a personal thank you to Alice's niece Cher Limle for the friendship, love and care she provided to both Alice and Jerry, and to Bonnie Schuster from Right At Home for her kindness and support. Alice's children are very grateful for all the kind words and support they received from family members and friends during Alice's illness.
