- Ruth Nelda McCandless, 92 passed away peacefully Friday October 19, 2012 at Matthew's Senior Living, Sheelin House, Darboy. She was born January 19, 1920, daughter of the late Ludwig and Gertrude (Southard) Werth. Ruth married Charles McCandless on August 10, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1988.
Ruth lived most of her life on a farm in the Township of Ellington. She graduated with highest honors from Whitewater State College. Ruth was an avid outdoors' person. She enjoyed being a campground host with her dog, Cookie. Her and Charles enjoyed travel and camping throughout the United States, including six months in Alaska. Ruth also enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, sewing, working on crafts, and collecting antiques.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Tom) Ploor, Sturgeon Bay, and Barbara (John) Melby, Arvada, Co; son, Gary (Dianne) McCandless, Pickeral Lake, Wi; 15 Grandchildren; 32 Great-Grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Barbara McCandless, Weyauwega; sister-in-law, Mamie Schoerner, and brother-in-law, Harold McCandless; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; two Grandchildren, Katherine Poh, and David McCandless; a great-Grandson, Ross Gordon; brother, Ward Werth; sister, Inez Tennermann; and several brothers and sisters in-law.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday October 27, 2012 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Mark Klaisner officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
Ruth's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at both the Sheelin House, and Heartland Hospice, for all their care and compassion. Ruth will be missed by all who knew her.
