- Helen M. Jungwirth, age 84, of Appleton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 21, 2014, following a brief stay at Fox River Nursing & Rehab Center. Helen was born in New London on February 13, 1930 to the late Arthur and Dorothy (Finger) Fritz. Helen was baptized in 1930 and confirmed in 1944 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. She graduated from Washington High School in New London in 1948. On April 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to John G. Jungwirth of Greenville, who preceded her in death on May 9, 2014, after 60 years of marriage.
Helen worked for a bakery and a photographer in New London and Aid Association for Lutherans in Appleton before she married. Helen also took care of the clerical work when John opened his own mudjacking and office cleaning businesses.
Helen was a long-time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Appleton. Helen enjoyed caring for her cats, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, reading, growing plants, and bird watching. She loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers and traveling throughout the United States.
She is survived by a son Kenneth (Rebecca) Jungwirth, and their sons Andrew and Matthew; a daughter, Susan Jungwirth; 2 brothers: Raymond (Ingeborg) Fritz and Robert (Loraine) Fritz; a sister, Maxine Lathrop; a sister-in-law, Lucille Fritz; and 3 brothers-in-law: William (Yvonne) Jungwirth, Larry (Sandy) Jungwirth, and Edward (Boni) Jungwirth. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Donald Fritz and an infant; an infant sister; 3 brothers-in-law: Walter Schwartzkopf, Burton Lathrop, and George Jungwirth; a sister-in-law, Karen Jungwirth; grandson Peter Jungwirth; and nephew Gregory Fritz.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 129 S. Mason St., Appleton, with Rev. Paul Schuler officiating. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida St., Appleton, and directly at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family has established a memorial fund in Helen's name.
