  After looking over the annual financial report of St. Mary's Church there is not one dollar of encumbrance stands against the property of the south side Roman Catholic Church. Its church and school house, parsonage and sisters' residence, together with necessary lots and a large cemetery is entirely paid for, property valued at $25,000. The faithful and ceaseless labors of Rev. Fr. Hens have brought about this condition.

  From the Homecoming of St. Mary's Congregation
  The Rev. Nicholas Hens was born in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, December 28, 1843. He pursued his studies in Belgium, and was ordained to the priesthood by the Rt. Rev. Charles Andrew Anthonis, May 22, 1869. He came to New York August 25th of the same year, and was appointed to the pastorate of Patter- son, N. J., remaining there until August, 1884. A year later he came to Green Bay at the request of the Rt. Rev. Bishop Kraut- bauer, and joined this diocese. He was appointed pastor of the congregation at Lincoln in Kewaunee county and remained there fifteen months, during which time he completed St. Peter's Church. From Lincoln he was transferred to St. Mary's, Kaukauna, on December 1, 1886. During the six years in this parish, he enlarged the combination church and school building, erected a Sisters' house, and a parsonage. To ease his declining years he was appointed pastor of St. Mary's Church at Chilton. He died at Green Bay.
