Navy records describe him as 5'9 1/4inches, 143 lbs, Hazel eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion, end of third and fouth fingers of right hand deformed, scars on lower lip, base of right thumb, left index finger, right thigh, left knee and left hip. Minnesota Online Index finds A.F. Wilpolt listed in the database of The Great White Fleet; Description: Great White Fleet- When the Atlantic Fleet sailed from Hampton Roads, VA on 16 December 1907, it was a worldwide goodwill mission by President Theodore Roosevelt. The fleet consisted of sixteen new battleships painted white, with gilded scrollwork on their bows, six destroyers, and several auxiliary ships. This was likely the last large fleet to sail around the Horn before the completion of the Panama Canal in 1914.This database lists the names of the men who were on those ships as they sailed in review past President Roosevelt on that December day in 1907.   1907 Kaukauna Times dated 11/1/1907; Jacky Home for a Visit Albert Wilpolt, seaman, who enlisted in the navel service 4/23/1907 to serve 3 years came home Saturday from New York to visit his mother Mrs Sarah Wilpolt of the south side. Seaman Wilpolt has the distinction of serving on the battleship Ohio, the flagship of Admiral Robley D. Evans, who with his fleet of 16 battleships and more than that in number of coaling ships is to sail from Hampton Roads, VA December 15th for San Francisco, by way of the straights of Magellan, a trip of neary 14,000 miles. This great fleet about 50 ships will compose the greatest navel movement in the worlds history and the position held by Seaman Wilpolt was eagerly sought for by every Jacky in Uncle Sam's service. Young Wilpolt is a straight built vigorous young man who in his natty sailor togs makes a fine appearance. He will spend a month visiting his mother and his friends in the city after which he will join is commrades on board ship and commence getting everything in readiness for sailing on this great voyage.
