  JOHN J. CARROLL, 90, of the Town of Rantoul, died Wednesday evening at Calumet Memorial Hospital at Chilton. He had been in ill health the past several months. Born in Town Rantoul on Dec. 6, 1868, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Carroll, he was a retired farmer. For many years he served as a director of the Nicolet rural school in Town Rantoul. He was married to Belle Short on Oct. 20, 1896, at St. Augustus Catholic Church in Chilton, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946. She passed away on July 22, 1950. Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Frances Laughrin, Mrs. Joseph (Bernadette) Bollmer, Mrs. Henry (Clara) Mathes, and Mrs. Coletta Meyer of Hilbert, and Mrs. Daniel (Dorothy) Skahen of Town Rantoul; three sons, George and John at home, and James of Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lerum of Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home at Chilton and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustus Church with the Rev. Roland Ahearn officiating.
