- Verstegen, Ernest J. Litt le ChuteAge 85, died peacefully with his family by his side Thursday December 2 7, 2001. He was born October 19, 1916 in Little Chute, son of Joseph and A nna (Van Gompel) Verstegen. Ernest married Ann Loretta Peeters June 15, 19 40 at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute, where he was a lifelong memb er and she preceded him in death April 30, 2001. As a high school athlet e, his passion and skill for football earned him a scholarship at Jordan C ollege and the nickname "Lightning". He was a post World War II veteran, s erving in Japan. Ernest was employed at Kimberly Clark Corporation f or 38 years until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and go lfing. His handyman skills were demonstrated in 1947, when he built his o wn home. He belonged to the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Litt le Chute and the Fox Valley Golf Club, where he won their Presidents' C up in 1961.Ernest is survived by a son, Gary (Lois) Verstegen, Little Chute; three da ughters: Janet Verstegen, Little Chute; Ann (Bill) Schaefer, Lone Tree, Co lorado; Ellen Verstegen, Kaukauna; four grandchildren: Sara (Jim) Nielin g; Jason (Theresa) Verstegen; Vanessa Mills and Breanna Adams; four great- grandchildren: Ryan Nieling, Boone Verstegen, Brock Verstegen and Michel le Mills; a brother, Joseph (Charlotte) Verstegen; four sisters: Bernice V ander Velden, Ida (James) Peeters, Irene (Don) Peeters, and Joanne Hawle y; three brothers-in-law: Eugene (Bernice) Peeters, Don (Irene) Peeters a nd Mark Peeters; two sisters-in-law: Loretta and Marie Verstegen; speci al friends: Mark Van Ooyen, Tim Verbeten and Jerry Mills; many nieces, nep hews and cousins. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, five brothe rs: Lester (Peg) Verstegen, Clarence Verstegen, Gerald (Margaret) Verstege n, Robert (Lillian) Verstegen and Carl Verstegen; a sister, Regina (Claren ce) Bouressa, a brother-in-law, Carl (Irene) Peeters; four sisters-in-la w: Cele (Earl) Schuler, Monica Peeters, Rita Peeters and Mary Ellen Peeter s.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday December 29, 2001 at St. John Ca tholic Church, Litttle Chute with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiatin g. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may ca ll at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the mass whe re military rites by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post will follo w.
