- See Image John P. Kavanaugh, at 8 6, of Madison died on Sunday, June 1st, 2003, at his home. He was bo rn on December 20th, 1916, in Freedom, Wisconsin, the son of John and An na (Dorsey) Kavanaugh Sr. He was the founder of a Kavanaugh Esquire Cl ub on North Sherman Avenue, which began in 1947. Jack and his wife, Jan e, enjoyed serving the Madison area community for many years and would li ke to thank their loyal customers and employees for their many years of fr iendship. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus #531, Elks Lodg e, Moose Club, Wisconsin Tavern Guild, Wisconsin Restaurant Association a nd a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic church. He is surviv ed by his wife of nearly 62 years, the former Jane Colwell, five childre n, Patti (Thomas) Caputo, Kathy (James) Uhalt, John (Linda), Thomas (Cat hy O'Sullivan) and Kevin (Colleen), 19 grandchildren, Bernie, Danielle, To ny, James Jr., (Joann), Charles, (Sarah), Jackie, John IV, (Gail Millard ), Holly (Travis) Peltier, Bridget, Thomas Jr., (Leah), Chad (Alison), Bri an, Dustin, Daniel, Kelly, Kristi, Casey, and Karen, and three great-grand children, Dawson, Hali and Kylie. He is also survived by Aliama Nyange r, John and Jane's caretaker. In addition to his parents, he was preced ed in death by four brothers, James, Nicholas, Robert and Michael, and a c lose friend, Bernard Klinzing. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter 's Catholic Church 5001 North Sherman Avenue on Thursday June 5th, 200 3, at 11:00 a.m. Father Roger Nilles will officiate. Entombment will be h eld at Resurrection cemetery.
