Born in Detroit, MI Barbara spent her childhood growing up in Oregon, IL and Waukesha, WI. She was a graduate of Waukesha High School and University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse where she majored in Physical Education. Barbara spent her early career teaching in Kimberly.
Barbara believed in doing her share to make her community a better place for its citizens. In the 1980's she was an active member of the Transit Commission. She also had a great interest in politics and was involved with the League of Women Voters for many years, including the years she served as President. Her leadership skills were also utilized during her term as Director of Planned Parenthood in Appleton where she made some very close, life-long friends. After developing an interest and expertise in finance, Barbara became a financial advisor. In 1978 she became an independent advisor and started her own practice, Hoffman Financial Services.
Over the years Barb and Arch enjoyed traveling the world and she always tried to get a flavor of the land by meeting people from the various places they visited. Some of their favorite trips included cruises on the Volga, Nile, Amazon, and Yangtze Rivers.
She was an avid reader and, by her gifts of books, she encouraged others to realize the joy of reading. She was a member of several book clubs over the years. Her other interests included following the Green Bay Packers, playing golf, and doing the crossword puzzle (in pen!). But her passion was following her Dodgers dating back to Brooklyn and the Jackie Robinson era.
Barbara will be remembered for her lively spirit and her love and devotion to her family. Please join family and friends on Wednesday, May 15th, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1213 E Wisconsin Ave., Appleton for a time of fellowship and remembrance from 9:30 - 11:00 with mass at 11:00.
