  Henry Jansen, who is engaged in extensive agricultural operations on a finely-cultivatedtract of seventy-six acres situated in section 26, Buchanan townshi p, is a native of the Province of Gelderland, Holland, and was bornOctober 3, 1840, a son of Jacob and Christina Jansen. They came to Ameri ca in 1850, settling in Kaukauna township, where they purchasedforty acres of wild land, and Mr. Jansen cut the trees and heweed the lo gs for a little shanty. He had notheing but his ax to start workwith, but as the years passed by he gradually added to his stock of equipm ents, and at the time of his death was the owner of about 100acres of excellent land. Both he and his wife died on the farm and were bu ried in Little chute Cemetery. Henry Jansen was the sixth of afamily of fourteen children, and he remained at home until he had attain ed his majority, at which time he started working for wages, andso continued until he was twenty-seven. He then bought the place whi ch he is now operating, at that time all wooded land with noimprovements, and he now has it all under cultivation. He was married in 1 867 to Miss Nellie Williams, of Outagamie county, daughter of John William s, and she died in 1869, after eighteen months of married life, and is bur ied in Little Chute Cemetery. One child was born to this union and it di ed shortly after its mother's death. One year later Mr. Jansen was marri ed to Miss Mary Ruvenrink, born Agust 26, 1838,and died April 4, 1911, whose parents spent their lives in Holland. Five c hildren were born to this union, of whom two are still living:Mary, who married George Kamps, and now lives in Buchanan township, havi ng nine children; and Henry, who is married and lives with his father, hav ing one child. Mr. Jansen is a Democrat in politics and the religious conn ection of the family is with the Kimberly Catholic Church.
