  Carl R. Braeger, Appleton, age 86, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at Franciscan Care Center. Carl was born May 19, 1915 in Appleton, the son of the late William and Ida (Zilske) Braeger and had residede in Appleton all of his life. Carl was united in marriage to Vivan Johnson on February 15, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church, sharing 54 years together before her death on January 16, 2002. He was formerly employed by the Appleton Wire Works for many years, retiring in 1980. Carl was a veteran of World War II, serving as a medic with the U. S. Army in Italy. He was an avid sports fan and will be remembered as an easy going man who was able to get along with everyone. Carl was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Rita Braeger, Appleton, niece, Kay Zienert, Appleton; two cousins, Oliver Tracy and Ruby Kuchenbecker, both of Appleton, and a special friend, Marion Dietrich, Appleton. In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Braeger, and two sisters, Marguerite Zienert and Carolyn Braeger. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1st at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nate Gauerke officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church."
