- Joan M. Diedrich, 80 of Appleton, was born to eternal life on, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. Joan was born on March 22, 1934 in Appleton to the late Paul and Evelyn (St. Louis) Ganzen. She was a lifetime resident of Appleton, graduating from Appleton High School. On October 3, 1953 she was united in marriage to Joseph Diedrich at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Joseph preceded her in death on July 25, 2002.
Joan was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton. She was an avid shopper and sports fan, she enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Badgers, cooking, keeping up with current events and history. Joan loved her 6 little angels; she was an excellent mother, with a heart of gold. Joan had a large family, and was able to keep up with everything going on in all their lives. She was thoughtful and caring and instilled these values in her family. Joan was so truly loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
Joan is survived by her five children; Diane (Michael) Smith, Joseph (Kathleen) Diedrich, Linda (Daniel) Kahler, Janet (Jeff) Tessen, and Karen (Donald) Marx, by son-in-law, Bryan Mangan, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, by her sister Yvonne Smith, and by sisters-in-law Florence (Ray) VandenHeuvel, and Rita VanBoxtel. Also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, daughter Donna Mangan, and brothers-in-law; George Smith and Ernie VanBoxtel.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the FUNERAL HOME.
