- Hermes, Joyce M. 907 Woodla nd Drive KaukaunaAge 75, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002 following a brief illness. Joy ce was born in Kaukauna on May 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Willa rd and Angeline (Vanevenhoven) Vanden Heuvel. She was a graduate of the Ka ukauna High School, and after two years of training at the Outagamie Coun ty Normal School, she began teaching elementary school at St. John Scho ol in Little Chute. Here she met her future husband, Sylvester Hermes. T he couple was married on June 3, 1948. Sylvester preceded Joyce in dea th on March 13, 1982. Although her primary goal as an adult was to raise h er family, she did work for a time at Weight Losers as well as at the Gre en Thumb in Oneida. In her retirement Joyce helped in the kitchen at the K aukauna High School. She also enjoyed playing cards and belonged to the la dies' golf league at Countryside Golf Course where she served as presiden t. Many will recall her volunteering in the kitchen at the Holy Cross Octo berfest and her participation in the Queen of Peace Choir. In her earli er years, she directed the choir at Immaculate Conception Church in Oneida .Joyce will be sadly missed by three daughters: Ellen Hermes of Kaukauna; J ulie (Henry) McKenna of Freedom; Jan Hermes and her special friend Janel C ody of Kaukauna; two sons: Paul (Darlene) Hermes of Kimberly and Pete (Lau rie) Hermes of Darboy; seventeen grandchildren: Sam (Laurie) Pynenberg, An gela (Jason) Lewis, Anthony Pynenberg, Amy (Paul) Bloch, Molly Starszak, A manda Starszak, Jenny McKenna, Mandy McKenna, Zachary Hermes, Michelle (Jo hn) Keough, Melissa School, Daniel Hermes, Nicholas Hermes, Kaitlyn Herme s, Benjamin Hermes, Ashley Hermes, and Jason Hermes; six great-grandchildr en; a sister: Joan (Henry) Etteldorf of Neenah; three sisters-in-law: Nore en Vanden Heuvel of Neenah, Elsie Luedke of Kaukauna, Fran Janssen of Appl eton; a brother-in-law: Jim (Evelyn) Hermes of Little Chute; and by numero us nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Joyce was preceded in de ath by her parents, her husband Sylvester, a son Tom, a daughter Bonni e, a brother Eugene "Bud" Vanden Heuvel, brothers-in-law Gordy Luedke a nd Tony Janssen, and a niece Barbie Etteldorf.The funeral liturgy for Joyce will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, Augu st 1, 2002 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukau na with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemeter y, Little Chute. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday fr om 2:00 PM until the time of the mass.
