- William "Bill" Lloyd Benner, 80, of Appleton, died Monday, September 26, 2011, at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, August 9, 1931, son of the late Elmer and Sara (Perrine) Benner. Bill married Leone Van Handel on November 22, 1991.
Bill worked for 30 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Appleton, retiring in 1991. He held the position of Union President for the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch #822 for 26 years, and was also a Union Steward. After retiring from the Postal Service, Bill worked as a courier for Dunham Express in Neenah until August 2006. He was also an active member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, Chapter #437, including serving several terms as Chapter President. Bill loved camping and traveling with Lee. He enjoyed hunting, and tinkering in his garage. Bill loved spending time with family, especially his Grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years, Leone; 13 children, Kathy (Lad) Dilley, Kaukauna; Colleen (Jerry) Winkler, Oshkosh; Bill (Linda) Benner, Amberg; Gary (Colleen) Benner, Appleton; Kevin (Barb) Benner, Menasha; Brian (Joy) Benner, West Bend; Bruce (Luz) Benner, Chino, California; Tom (Becky) Benner, Port Charlotte, Florida; Terry (Marlene) Gerrits, Sun Prairie; Paula (Steve) Weyers, Seymour; Colleen (Dick) Poquette, DePere; Jolene (Mark) Waldburger, Menasha; and Mark Gerrits, Freedom; 21 Grandchildren; and 12 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith, three brothers, Bob, Don, and Dan; and two Grandchildren, Tanya and Robert.
Memorial service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2011 in the chapel at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK, 3131 N Richmond Street, Appleton. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until the hour of service.
