- Donald J. Charles, 83, died April 15, 2008, in Sun City West, Ariz.
He was born July 18, 1924, in Green Bay, to the late Isadore and Annie Charles.
Don graduated from SS Peter & Paul Grade School, Green Bay East High School and St. Norbert College.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army 87th Infantry Division, where he survived the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Medal.
He married the former Jacqueline Beaver in 1948. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1995.
Don moved to Connecticut in 1956 where he was employed by James River Corp/American Can, retiring in 1990. Although living in Ridgefield, Conn., for 36 years, he remained an avid Packer fan, returning many times to see his team play. He married the former Jean Lefebvre Haselow in October 1999.
Survivors include his wife; four stepchildren; his sister, Angeline Woosencraft, Pulaski; a sister-in-law, Irene Meijer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
His two brothers, Carlton and Gordon, preceded him in death.
Gathering time with family and friends will be held at St. Willebrord Church, 209 South Adams Street, on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Kenneth J. De Groot, O. Praem., officiating. Military honors to follow. Interment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
