- Voster, Louis J. "Louie", On Feb. 23, 2010, at the age of 94, Louis took his beloved wife's hand and she led him to his Lord and Savior. He completed his journey peacefully with family at his side, and at long last, Louie and Jo are "Together Forever." Our family's patriarch was born of Dutch decent on Feb. 10, 1916, in Little Chute Wis. He was the third of 13 children born to the late Joseph L. and Petronella (Nellie Van Asten) Vosters. After graduating from St. John's High School in 1935 during the Great Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a work relief program under FDR's New Deal. Six months after his return from Camp Newald, Louis found employment as a Beater Engineer at Riverside Paper, where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 1978. He had met his future wife, Josephine Anna Thein, at his Junior Prom and they married on Sept. 30, 1939, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. She was the most beloved and important person in his life, and sadly preceded him in death on June 6, 1998.
For all of his married life, Louis was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Appleton. He proudly served as Treasurer of the Winnebago Point Road Association for ten years, where their cottage was located. Louie and Jo spent years of summers together on the lake with family and friends, fishing, playing cards, gardening, dealing with the lake flies, smoking catfish in the old refrigerator below the hill, enjoying the sunsets and each other. Louie enjoyed woodworking, putzing around, watching all of God's creatures, especially his birds, squirrels, bunnies and chippies (all named Kiki). He loved his bananas, a good fish fry, a gentle back scratch, an Old Fashion now and then, but he especially loved ice cream.
He will be sorely missed by his children, Gerald (Dorothy) Voster, Patricia (Curtis) French, David (Linda) Voster, Michael (Mary) Voster, Linda (Jim) Warning; grandchildren, James (Sheila) Voster, Kurt (Theresa) Voster, Rebecca (Dan) Culver, Christopher Voster, Steven (Jamie) Voster, Kara (Kenneth) Vassar, Todd (Heidi) French, Amy (Randy) Harper, Heather Voster, Sarah (Brian) Lee, Erik Voster, Corrie Warning, Crystal (Jeff Nelson) Warning and Casey Warning; stepgrandchildren, James (Amy) Appleton, Jolene (David) Hemp, Kenneth Appleton, Kristine (Nicholas) Nicolini, Michael Appleton; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Tom (Donna) Vosters, Leo (Margie) Vosters, Dorothy Schmidt and Sister Mary Vosters; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Seidl, Priscilla, Margie and Doris Vosters, Henry Wiegand, Lois Eley, Richard (Dian) Thein and Louis "Bud" (Mary) Thein.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughters, Kristina French and Theresa Voster; sisters, Catherine Seidl, Margaret Mary (Ken) Kuntsman; brothers, Walter (Ceil), Lawrence (Dolores), John, Norbert (Harriet), Bernard "Butch" and Joseph "Chuggs" Vosters; brother-in-law, Paul Schmidt; Josephine's family, Bernadine (Norman) Bauhs, Marjorie Wiegand, James Eley, MD, Edward (Ruth) Thein, Louella "Honey" (Clifford) Marron.
For his love and devotion to our mother, his honesty, dependability and sense of fairness, Dad was an example to us all. He was a faithful man, forever dedicated to the Holy Family and to his own. We have many precious memories of Louie, who was always a comedian, had a positive attitude and possessed an incredible will to live. He also had one thick head of hair! He will be sadly missed by all who loved him, and while our world is forever changed, we celebrate his blessed 94 years on earth.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. at SACRED HEART PARISH, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with the Rev. Robert Karuhn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Proceeds will be used to support the Little Chute Windmill and Van Asten Visitor Center.
Our family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Stephen Fuller for the many years of wonderful care, concern and friendship given to Dad. Our thanks to the VNA nurses and his Affinity Hospice team that allowed him to remain at home, where he wanted to be. Many thanks to his neighbors, Tom and Mary, for their way of making Louie feel so special. And to our Dad, thank you for being you. We will always love you and until we meet again, Bid voor Ons.
