  Janet Evelyn Van Asten, 71, Appleton, passed away suddenly Friday, June 10, 2011, at her home. She was born Sept. 27, 1939, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille (Stammer) Kippenhan. She was united in marriage to Virgil M. Van Asten on April 7, 1956. Janet attended high school at Appleton West High School. She was a homemaker and received her real estate broker's license. She was an active promoter of quality education and the sharing of minds. Her passion was social interaction, the sharing of ideas and experiences. Janet is survived by four sons, Scot (Victoria) Van Asten, Oshkosh; Robert Walter Van Asten, Shiocton; Rocky (Laurie) Van Asten, Madison; Virgil A. (Cynthia Bork) Van Asten, Appleton; daughter, Debra (David) Guckenberger, Ashippun. She will be especially missed by her beloved grandchildren, Thea and Blake Van Asten, Abby and Arik Van Asten, David John, Matthew and Alex Guckenberger. She is also survived by three brothers and a sister, William (Jane) Kippenhan, Burlington, N.C.; Cecil Kippenhan, Cameron Wis.; Joanne (Albert) Sollecito, Fishkill N.Y. She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Van Asten; her brother, Kenneth Kippenhan; and her parents. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 4:30 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home, Appleton, with a fellowship to follow.
