- Dorothy J. "Dort" Van Deurzen, 87, Little Chute, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 2, 2015. She was born on August 11, 1927, daughter of the late John and Frances (Verkuilen) Vander Wyst. She married James Van Deurzen on August 6, 1949, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing in 1999.
Dort loved the Brewers, and that's an understatement. She enjoyed watching, listening or attending the games. She also was an avid Packer fan, talented seamstress and enjoyed puzzles. If Dort found out when your birthday was, she would never forget it. She enjoyed her Oneida trips to play "her" penny machine. Dort was an extremely special person, and truly will be missed.
Survivors include her three daughters: Nancy (Glenn) Romenesko, Little Chute; Ann (Dale) Romenesko, Little Chute; Ellen (Bob) De Coster, Kaukauna; her son, Jay (Tammy) Van Deurzen, Darboy; eight very special grandchildren: Cory and Jason (Erin) Romenesko, Mandy (Bryan) Rusch, Shane, and Jake (Kathy) Romenesko, Adam Doell, Brock and Brady Van Deurzen; four precious great-grandchildren: Jackson, Weston, Alexis and Chloe; a sister, Bernice Blohm; sisters-in-law: Betty Vander Wyst, Carol Vander Wyst, Jeanette Van Deurzen, Joan Kielgas and Marilyn (Ray) Staudt; a longtime friend, Laverne Brys; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Dort was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, John and Frances; siblings: Margaret (Ray) Vandenberg, Richard Vander Wyst, Butter Vander Wyst and Joseph (Betty) Vander Wyst; brothers and sisters-in-law: Patrick Blohm, Robert, John, Paul, Eugene and Irvin Van Deurzen, Evelyn Junk, Agnes Stadler and Alice Staudt; and special friend, Betty Brys.
Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Thursday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
