- Edward J. Oliva, age 94, of Kaukauna, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 8, 2012. He was born on October 23, 1917, in Kaukauna, to the late Michael and Anna (Raba) Oliva. Ed graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1935. He married Serena Bevers on August 24, 1940, at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. Ed was employed at Gustman Chevrolet-Oldsmobile for 46 years, retiring in 1981 as Body Shop Manager. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Heart of the Valley Kiwanis Golden K. Ed served as the Second Ward Alderman in the early 1960s. He was Chairman of the Auto Body Advisory Board at FVTC in the early 1970s. Ed enjoyed traveling, gardening, golf, and playing sheepshead and bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Serena; his five children: Mark (Gerdi) Oliva, Altershausen, Germany; Mary Lee (Richard) Salem, Madison, Wisconsin; Michael Oliva and friend Pat Meyer, Madison; Anne (Paul "Dusty") Schweitzer, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; and Jean (Peter) Kovaleski, Stafford Springs, Connecticut. He is further survived by his four grandchildren, Kirsten, Anja, and Peter Oliva; and Laura Schweitzer.
Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Eiting. A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. A memorial has been established in Ed's name.
