- Joseph J. Welhouse, 85, Green Bay, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at a local nursing home. He was born August 10, 1921, to the late Joseph H. and Johanna (Wyngaard) Welhouse in Little Chute, Wisconsin. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, receiving the following ribbons: American Area, European-African-Middle Eastern (3 stars), Asiatic-Pacific Area (3 stars), Good Conduct and Purple Heart. He was on two separate destroyers, the Duncan and the Shubrick. The Duncan was sunk first and most of the men on that ship were lost, and Joseph survived after swimming most of the night and was rescued at dawn. A 500# bomb was dropped on the Shubrick and they had to be towed back to New York from Sicily. On September 3, 1949, he married Lucille M. Weber in Appleton, Wisconsin. Joseph was a partner in Palisades Construction Co., Appleton; the owner/operator of Badger Redi-Mix Concrete; Concrete Materials Inc.; Concrete Supply Co. and Trico Co., Inc. in Green Bay; Bonduel Sand and Gravel and Slab City Ready Mix in Bonduel; part owner of Seymour Tile and D & J. Trucking, Seymour, WI; Advance Mixer Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Pioneer Materials in Fond du Lac, WI. He was a contributor to the Green Bay Montessori School and he was a member of the Green Bay Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lucille; his five sons and four daughters-in-law: Gereon Welhouse, Germantown; Mark and Loraine "Lorie" Welhouse, Denver, Colorado; James and Karen Welhouse, Paul and Lauri Welhouse, Cathy (Welhouse) Kirschling, all of Green Bay; and Steve Welhouse, Orlando, Florida; thirteen grandchildren; and special friend of Daniel's, Sulinda DiPietra of Tampa; two brothers, five sisters and a brother-in-law, Donald (Marian) Welhouse and Thomas (Carol) Welhouse of Green Bay; Elizabeth (Peter) Cortes, LaCanada, CA; Verone Berg, Winchester, WI; Lucina Iles, Saugus, CA; Ann (Norman) Burton, Appleton, WI; Janice (Joseph) Boucher, Albuquerque, NM; Orrin Hendricks, Menasha, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Randal and Daniel; one brother and two sisters, Roman (Virginia) Welhouse, Mary Ann (Orrin) Hendricks and Blanche (Frank) Ziewacz; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Welhouse.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Lyndahl Funeral Home where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at St. Agnes Cath-olic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., with the Rev.
