- Peter J. Ruys passed away on January 1, 2012, at home, with family at his side. He was born January 26, 1922, to the late Peter Sr. and Johanna (VanderHeiden) Ruys in Kimberly. He was both a gentle man and a gentleman.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed at several US ports and in Ireland. Upon his return in 1945, he was employed as a machinist at Kimberly-Clark until his retirement from Repap in 1984. He served on the Vocational School Board in the 1950's.
In 1947 he married Marie Schneider and lived in Kimberly while raising their family of three girls and two boys all of whom survive: Maryanne (Tim) Weyenberg, Greenleaf, WI; Joseph (Kate) Ruys, Castle Rock, CO; Christine (Garry) Woodman, Morrison, CO; Chuck (Gail) Ruys, Darboy; WI; and Rebecca (Mike) Wendt, Greenfield, WI. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Elly, Ben, Jeff, Julianne, Suzanne, Adam, Dan, Sara and Julie and nine great grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Nick, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Anna (George) Hopfensperger, Sister Johanna Ruys, Sister Alberta Anne Ruys, and brother Albert (Irene) Ruys.
The Funeral Mass for Peter will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Church, Kimberly, WI. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM.
The family wishes to thank the Appleton Medical Center nurses and doctors for their kind and compassionate care and the extraordinary home care and hospice support.
