- After a long and full life, Norman C. Leitermann, 92, Kimberly passed away peacefully at home under Hospice care on Saturday, July 31, 2010. He was born one of twins on July 15, 1918, to the late John and Rose (Herrmann) Leitermann of Antigo. Norman was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Army sergeant in Europe in the 7th Armored Division as a tank gunner. He served 4 years, four months, and four days. On Nov. 15, 1943, Norman married Mary J. Holloway. In their early years of marriage, they traveled extensively across the United States and in more recent years they traveled to Europe. Besides his well known love for gardening, Norman enjoyed square dancing, card playing, and stamp collecting. He was also good at building and fixing things. Norman was employed at Miller Electric for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He and Mary were foster parents to 73 children and were "grandma and grandpa" to many area children. Together they delivered Meals on Wheels and worked in food services for the Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley. Norman and Mary have been members of Holy Spirit Parish for the past 58 years.
Norman is survived by his wife, Mary; his eight children, Karen (Tom) Nault, Ohio, N. Patrick (Barbara) Leitermann, Greg (Gail) Leitermann, Paul (Mary) Leitermann, all of Appleton, Barbara (Tom) Carpenter, De Pere, Beth Leitermann, Florida, Gene (Cari) Leitermann, Connecticut, and Steve (Nicole) Leitermann, Kimberly; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Binversie, Kiel; his twin-brother, Norbert Leitermann, Little Chute. He is further survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and two grandchildren: Alex and Toni.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 602 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Fr. Dave Beaudry celebrating. Interment with full military rites by the William Verhagen Post #60 will take place in Holy Name Cemetery. Friends may call at the BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, on Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. and at CHURCH on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Norman's name for the Holy Spirit School tuition assistance program and to the local VA clinic.
