- Ziegler, Genevieve W. ( Gen Smith)Genevieve W. Ziegler (Gen Smith), formerly of Sherwood, age 83, went peace fully to the arms of her Savior, while surrounded by her family, on Saturd ay, July 15, 2006. The oldest of six children, Gen was born on September 1 6, 1922, to the late Earl and Ella (Murphy) Smith in Oneida, WI. She atten ded Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Freedom High Sch ool in 1940. On November 3, 1945, Gen married Carl Ziegler. They spent t he first twenty years of their married life at Air Force bases in Kansa s, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, and the Philippine Islands. After retir ing from the Air Force, Gen and Carl built their home on Lake Winnebago ne ar Sherwood, which became a haven for her family.For sixty years of her life, Gen courageously faced the challenges of Mult iple Sclerosis. In spite of her illness, Gen was an active member of Sacr ed Heart Parish in Sherwood where she spent countless hours as a library v olunteer. Gen's beautiful ceramic creations are treasures to all who recei ved them as gifts from "Aunt Gen." Gen and Carl enjoyed traveling througho ut the U.S. visiting Air Force friends. She loved going to Packer Games a nd was known for her great cookies.Gen is survived by two sisters: Eunice (Bob) Romenesko and Mary Ellen Kava naugh; two brothers: Gerald Smith and Mike (Donna) Smith; brother-in-la w, Gerald (Donna) Ziegler; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ziegler in 1997; her siste r, Valeria; sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith; two brothers-in-law: Mike Kavana ugh and Cliff Huss; and Carl's parents.The mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Churc h, Freedom, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, with Fr. John Schuetze of ficiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (TONIGHT), at t he BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. Visitati on will continue on Wednesday morning, DIRECTLY AT THE CHURCH, from 9:30 a .m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Highland Memori al Park in Appleton.
