- John E. "Rosie" Van Rossum, Appleton, 83, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday Dec. 30, 2006, after a short bout with Cancer. John was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Appleton, to the late Francis and Anna (Kugler) Van Rossum. He resided in Appleton his entire life. On May 5, 1948, he was united in marriage to Agnes Hartzheim. The couple shared 52 years together until her death in August of 2000. John worked at Kimberly Clark in the Kimtech Mill for 43 years, retiring in 1986.
He loved to golf, walking with his friends at the KC Health Center, visiting his friends at the Station, playing cards with friends and family, leisurely drives, Packer games, and visiting with his family. John was a lifelong member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Jack (Karen) Van Rossum, Green Bay; son, Dave Van Rossum, Appleton; son, Jeff Van Rossum, Appleton; daughter, Mary Gilkey, Appleton; son, Stephen (Joanne) Van Rossum, Appleton; daughter, Susan (Tom) Raatz, Appleton; daughter, Patty (Mike) Baumgart, Little Chute; son, Mark (Mary) Van Rossum, Neenah; and son, Mike (Jodi) Van Rossum, Menasha, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Christ, Appleton; Ruth (Shine) Vandenhogan, Kimberly; Mary Ann (John) Hakkart, Appleton; and Joan Kilcoyne, Chicago; a sister-in-law, Marie (Paul) Van Rossum, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Louie Van Rossum; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with the Rev. Larry Abler officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
