- Van Dyke, Wilma "Grandma Wimmy" - Wilma (Janssen) Van Dyke, 95, of Kaukauna, passed away at St. Paul Villa on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Wilma was born on June 22, 1914, in Combined Locks, daughter of the late Daniel C. and Flora (Rowe) Janssen. On July 3, 1937, she married Anthony "Tony" Van Dyke, who died in June of 1974.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (John) Mohrfeld, Menomonee Falls; her sons: Daniel (Shirley) Van Dyke, Kimberly; and Br. James Van Dyke, CSC, Chicago; her grandsons: Michael (Sue) Mohrfeld, Andrew (Wendy) Mohrfeld, Christopher (Terri) Mohrfeld; granddaughters: Lisa (Jonathan) Bascue, Lori (Scott) Biese; her step-granddaughter Shelli Roovers; 14 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law: Rose Marie Van Dyke and Joan Van Dyke; and her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wilma enjoyed her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She liked to organize activities and outings for younger children, especially her grandchildren. A 1932 graduate of Kaukauna High School, Wilma received her teacher certification through Outagamie County Teacher's College, and did additional course work through the University of Wisconsin. She taught in area grade schools before her marriage and resumed teaching in 1957 at Holy Cross in Kaukauna. At the time of her retirement, she was teaching at St. John, Little Chute. Wilma was a dedicated, enthusiastic and creative teacher who enjoyed helping students develop their minds while broadening their horizons. Music was a lifelong interest, and Wilma played piano from the age of 10. Another strong interest was travel. She often told of her family's trip to Tacoma by car in 1929, and never tired of traveling with family and friends. An avid reader, she remarked that she never would be bored as long as she could read. For most of her life, Wilma was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the dedicated staff at St. Paul Villa for their loving care, especially Sally, Peggy, Linda, Cheryl, Kay, Kris, Janet, Sandy and Linda, and her physician, Dr. Paul Russo. They would also like to thank Aunt Rose Marie and her daughters, and her many other visitors and friends who made her happy these past years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit St. Paul Elder Care Services, Kaukauna.
