- Margaret Rossmeissl, age 88, of Appleton, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born in Little Chute, WI on May 20, 1922, to the late Henry and Agnes (Janssen) DeGroot. Margaret married James Rossmeissl at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute on June 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1996, the exact day of their 50th wedding anniversary.
After high school, Margaret attended vocational school for shorthand and typing. Prior to marriage, she spent two years working at the Outagamie County Courthouse followed by three years at what was then Home Mutual & Casualty Company. When her children were older, Margaret started a new career at Appleton Business Machines where she remained until her retirement. Margaret was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Francis Society.
Margaret is survived by her five children: Mary Moore (John Duerkop), Appleton; James (Ellen) Rossmeissl, Menasha; Barbara (Tom) Jones, Hilbert; Joseph (Ellen) Rossmeissl, Appleton; Katie (Jeff) Coenen, Kaukauna; six brothers: Joseph (Shirley) DeGroot, Eureka, IL; Roger (Mary) DeGroot, Green Bay; Vincent (Lee Ann) DeGroot, Little Chute; Donald (Lori) DeGroot, Little Chute; Gerald (Pauline) DeGroot, Little Chute; Timothy (Cherri) DeGroot, Neenah; a sister: Doris (Robert) Barron, De Pere; 11 grandchildren: Katherine Jo (Thierry); Andrew (Lindsey); Maggie (Tim); Katie (David); Jesse (Kendra); Nicholas (Becky); Ross (Jennifer); Joe (Ashley); Rob; Emily and Patrick; two great-grandchildren: Sydney and Zachary, a great-grandchild expected in May; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Florian (Pearl) DeGroot and a sister: Bernice DeGroot.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St. with Rev. James Leary, OFM Cap officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a memorial fund that is being established in Margaret's name.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Margaret's caring friends at Ridgeview Highlands. We would also like to thank her physician, Dr. Hayan Yacoub, for his extraordinary kindness and concern throughout Mom's later years. Finally, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone at St. Elizabeth Hospital who helped care for her - from E.R. to the staff on Four West (especially Brenda and Brenda). Because of their expert care of and loving kindness toward both Mom and us, our final moments with her will forever remain one of our most treasured memories.
