- Helen F. Mc Cormick, Little Chute, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the age of 92 and went into the arms of Jesus and her beloved husband, Lewis. Helen was born May 3, 1915, in Little Chute, to the late John J. and Antoinette (Van Dommelen) Van Handel. She graduated in the first class of St. John High School in 1932. Helen was married in 1937 to Lewis Mc Cormick. They retired to Kelly Lake from 1979-1996, then returned to Little Chute. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1997. Helen loved her family and friends. The door was always open to everyone to play cards, shake dice, enjoy a meal, an old fashion or spend the night sharing stories of the past. Helen showed us all how to enjoy life and taught us all that the most important riches in the world are not material things, but love, caring and sharing of our self with others. She made a lot of traditions in our households that will last forever.
Helen was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, a lifetime member of the Kelly Lake Sportsman Club and a member and past president of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Auxiliary Post 258. She was also a member of the Golden Agers, Union Retirement Club of the Fox Area Labor Council, Little Chute Order of Foresters CT 555 and a committee member of the VFW Post 2778 Boy Scout Troop 67 for 42 years.
Helen is survived by her two sons, John "Jack" (Nancy), Kimberly; and Patrick "Pat", Appleton; five daughters, Kathleen "Kay" (William) Otto, Black Creek; Maureen "Moe" (Ken) Schwaller, Eileen "Iny" (special friend, Dick Dollevoet) Gerrits, Colleen "Clem" (Ronald) Verkuilen and Noreen "Babe" (Cory) Hughes, all of Little Chute; 19 grandchildren, Todd (Michelle) Mc Cormick, Amy Schumacher, Cara (Adam) Wege, Mike Mc Cormick, Sue (special friend, Dennis Laskowski) Otto, Dan (Sharlene) Otto, Barbara (Chuck) Miller, Sharon (Jim) Henn, Charlene Wyro, Christie (Kurt) Geiger, Kevin (Andrea) Schwaller, Gary (Sherri) Gerrits, Rick (Kris) Gerrits, Missy (Dave) Schmidt, Brent (Dee) Verkuilen, Tyler (Maria) Verkuilen, Anna Vandehey, Kyle Vandehey and Ben Hughes; 20 great-grandchildren; special family, William "Butts" and Kathy Weber and their children, Ken (Mary Claire), William (Maureen), Mary Ann (Todd) Laflin and Terri (Bob) Mauthe; and their nine grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Hartjes and Josie Verbeten; sisters-in-law, Doris Strick and Eleanor Mc Cormick; two stepbrothers, Roger and Robert Wittman; three stepsisters, Carol Pankratz, Rosemary Bjorklund and Joyce Czarowski. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews and her special canine companion, Pepper
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; her father and mother-in-law, William and Margaret; stepmother, "Nell" Mc Cormick; son-in-law, William Vandehey; granddaughter, Laura Vandehey; three brothers, Williard (Millie) Clarence (Louise) and Larry (Babe); five sisters, Cora and Jane Van Handel, Edith Weyenberg, Della (Elmer) Grimm and Harriet (Jack) Busch; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae (George) Weyenberg, William Strick, William (Myrtle) and Clark Mc Cormick.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 14, 2008, from 2:30 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:30 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE (323 S. Pine St., Little Chute). The Rev. David J. Funk, O.F.M. Cap. will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Helen's name.
Helen and her family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Parkside Care Center and Heartland Hospice, especially Lisa.
