  Eugene O. Maurer, Sherwood, age 82, died on Friday, February 20, 2015 at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna. He was born August 24, 1932, son of the late Irwin and Marie (Strebe) Maurer. On May 12, 1953, Gene married Ruth Huhn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood, she preceded him in death in March of 2001. Gene served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He worked at Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton for 42 years. Gene enjoyed spending time camping at Little Silver Lake, Wild Rose, pitching horseshoes, sturgeon fishing, making wood-working projects and visiting with friends at the local bar. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sherwood Thomas Kees American Legion Post 496. He is survived by his children: Marjory (Walter) Jentsch, Sherwood and Peggy (Jerome) Kowaleski, Greensboro, NC; 3 grandchildren: Tony (Ann) Goerl, Neenah, Lisa (Troy) Droese, Cedarburg, WI and Matt Kowaleski, Greensboro, NC; 3 great-grandchildren: Rowen Goerl, Hannah Droese and Wyatt Droese; 4 sisters-in-law: Grace Bauer, Sherwood, Helen Schifferling, Mosinee, Shirley Huhn, Little Chute and Rita Schneider, Port Edwards; 2 brothers-in-law: Bob Schifferling, Mosinee and Joe Diederich, Sherwood; nieces, nephews, and special friend, Joyce Lientz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; 5 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law: Tom (Mary) Huhn, Dennis (Rose) Huhn, David Huhn, Carole Diederich, Orly Bauer, and Gene Schneider. Mass of Christian Burial for Gene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at ST. JOHN-SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, N369 Military Rd., Sherwood with Fr. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a parish prayer at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call again on Thursday directly at Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
