- Van Sistine Sr., Richard "Dic k"Richard C. Van Sistine Sr. "Dick," 85, Appleton, a devoted husband, fathe r, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on March 24, 2004 at App leton Medical Center. Dick was born on June 22, 1918 to the late Leo and A nne Van Sistine (Maloney) in De Pere, Wis. He married Dorothy Peters on M ay 18, 1946. Dick proudly served in the Army during World War II. He w as a General Manager with North Eastern Wisconsin Bell and eventually beca me the Public Relations Director until retiring in 1981. Dick had a passi on for serving in the community. He was a member of Kaukauna Rotary, pa st president of Appleton's club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Awar d. Dick was president of Chamber of Commerce of Appleton, and also a memb er of the 'Old Goats' of Waverly Beach. He was very active in the Boy Scou ts of which he was President of the Valley Council and recipient of the Si lver Beaver Award. He was also a member of the police and fire commissio n, Knights of Columbus, director of St. Elizabeth Hospital Board from 1984 -90, and received the Distinguished Citizen Award presented by the Applet on Jaycees. Dick was also active in the United Way from campaign chairm an to being a staff member when he retired. He was active in anything a nd everything related to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildr en. He enjoyed golfing, camping, which he was referred to as 'Ranger', sco uting, a Packer fan and all around sports fan.Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of 57 years; children: Richard Jr. (B ecky), Dan (Sue), Ann (Mike) Geurts, Mary (Brad) Graff, Peter (Mary), Mi ke (Debbie); grandchildren: Rich (Kimberly), Matt, Paul, Lisa, Luke, Jo n, Ben, Elizabeth, Andy, Toby (Heather), Gretchen (Roy), Sara (Britt), Mic hael (Jill), Amanda, Joe, Katie, Heather (Jim), Tara (Geoff), Brooks, Nic k, Lindsay, Bobby, Danny and Melissa; nine great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and son, Tim.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 27, 20 04 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (222 E. Fremont St.) in Appl eton with Father Robert Karuhn officiating. Visitation will start at the c hurch from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will take place in Mou nt Calvary Cemetery, De Pere. A memorial fund is being established.
