  Johann "Michael" Frederick Techlin was born in 1803 in Bartow,Prussia, Germany, 80 Miles noth of Berlin. He was a farmer and a man of comfortable means. His wife Regina "Sophia" (Breitsprecher) Techlin was also born in 1803 in Volschow, Pussia, Germany. Together they had eight children, four sons and four daughters. Michael, his wife Sophia and six of their eight children emigrated to the United States between 1857 and 1860, all sailing from Hamburg to New York. In July 1860, Michael, Sophia and the children are found on the census in Waukesha County near Sessex in the township of Lisbon. They found employment among the farmers of the vicinity,and Johann (John) was married and had his first child, Wilhelmina. The following year, Michael, who had some capital, bought each of his sons 40 acre in Center township near the current location of St. John's church.
